what’s new in neuro
we are SO back!
Did you miss us? Because we sure missed you! We’re buzzing with excitement seeing everyone, especially after a helluva homecoming (and finally having some sort of fall weather #happyfallyall)! We, NSAC (Neuroscience Student Advisory Council), serve as the bridge between faculty and students, always seeking to better the best major on campus. These newsletters are a tool for you to stay up-to-date on what’s going on and get connected! We were having some technical difficulties sending out the newsletter (go jackets), but we’re back and better than ever!! We’re so so ready to welcome in the most wonderful year with YOU!
student spotlighting
Welcome to the best part of the newsletter, student spotlights⭐⭐ This month we wanted to feature a graduating neuroscientist, Erica Drummond! Pursuing a minor in Biology, Erica got into research investigating microbial interactions and how contact killing via the Type 6 Secretion System guides evolution in polymicrobial biofilms (try saying that 5 times fast). Her main project is a long-term experimental evolution project analyzing how target E.coli adapts to repeated co-culture in an attached biofilm community with V. cholerae (we <3 a woman in stem). Her biggest advice is to prioritize sleep (wow science working) even if it means saying no to some things - it becomes easier to focus, increases productivity, and spills over to all elements of your life. Outside of all things school, Erica is involved at Passion City Church, enjoys running, and finding good food around Atlanta. Glad we get to call you a peer Erica!
we would love to feature you or your friend in our newsletters/IG! if you’re interested in being spotlighted, please fill out the form!
running back the pizzeria
With the smell of graduation in the air, for this brain break, we wanted to bring back some memories when life was simple and coolmath had no ads. If you never took part of the Papa’s ____eria franchise, have you really lived to the fullest? Let the nostalgia bubble as the pizza cooks in this game of Papa’s Pizzeria
excitatory events
all about that research!
With the weather cooling down, it’s time to get cuffed with the research you’ve been after. Now is your time: this Friday, November 15, from 5-7 PM, at CULC 102 come hear about all things research from 3 different GT PIs and some students who have taken a part in research. If you’ve never been in lab before or just wanted to explore what’s out there, this is the event for you. Tis’ the season for diving into what you love and ofc, snacks will be provided. Please RSVP at THIS LINK!!
This event is a GREAT follow-up to the next Neuro-next event happening TOMORROW, November 14th, at 11-12:30 PM in CULC 102 (apparently the room to be). Free lunch (literally do you need anything else) and a panel of Atlanta graduate students conducting Neuro-related research in a range of PhD programs talking about their joys with research! RSVP HERE to make sure you have your spot!
a quick lil brain break
Have you felt slightly burned out? The silver lining being Thanksgiving break? There is nothing that a lil bit of Ratatouille can’t fix. With the smell of pizza and popcorn, and the sound of “Le Festin” in the air, come join SNA TODAY, November 13, from 6-9 PM, at 210 LLC West Commons in Curran Street Deck! A fun time to meet other neuroscientists while watching a BANGER movie!

calling all transfer students!
Transfer students! We want to hear from you! Though sometimes it might feel like you might be the overlooked middle child, we want to change that! This form is where we want you to spill your guts about what went well, what definitely needs to be improved on, and any tips that you have for other transfer students! We are so #grateful for our lovely transfer students and all that you add to our program!
living for the living opportunities
NSAC has worked hard to compile a list of practically everything you could want to know or sign up for - from volunteer opportunities to study abroad experiences. We did some of the sifting through the canvas weekly announcements for you :)
