what’s new in neuro

only neuro McCANn do it!
New year, a new face in neuro!! We wanted to extend a very big WELCOME to Dr. Katharine McCann, the newest addition to the MIGHTY neuro team! Dr. McCann first earned her B.S. in Psychology AND B.A. in Sociology from UGA (ouch - THWg i guess). Instead of jumping straight into graduate school, she worked as a social worker for several years before pursuing her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from GSU (getting warmer…). After making it out, she continued her postdoc at GSU and the NIH where she studied genetic and molecular mechanisms of stress-induced behavioral changes. Most recently, she was a part of the research faculty at Emory School of Medicine looking at the models of drug addiction and neurodegeneration. We love a good fun fact moment: Dr. McCann was a classically trained ballerina with over 20 YEARS of dancing (dancing queen fr fr), as pictured above! If you’re looking for her outside of all things school, you can probably find her, her husband, and 2 kids exploring/hiking, taking a beach trip, or enjoying live music in the ATL. Dr. McCann says that she’s excited to be at GT and join the incredible neuro students, but WE’RE the ones who are happy she joined!
student spotlighting
Annnddd we’re back at it again with another student spotlight! This month we’re highlighting John (Johnny) Meshramkar. Johnny is currently a 4th year neuro major (obvi) and pursuing minors in HMED and Spanish. During his time at Tech, Johnny did research in an I/O psychology lab looking into how different physiological measurements relate to emergent leadsership in a workplace (talk about applicable info!). As most of the ppl in this major Johnny is a pre-med student that just COMMITTED to going to Emory School of Medicine (let’s gooooooo). Though the journey was definitely difficult, Johnny’s tip (and we MEGA agree) is to STOP comparing yourself to others - that includes scores/grades! His favorite Tech memory is doing the horse after every game, no matter W or L. Fun fact timeee: He once ran with the blls in Pamplona, Spain! Outside of school, you can probably catch Johnny trying new resaturants with friends! Thanks Johnny and we wish you all the best in this next season!!
we would love to feature you or your friend in our newsletters! if you’re interested in being under the spotlight, please fill out the form!
wicked fast wiki search
Wikipedia, the most trusted internet source. To know it is to love it. If you’ve hit an unproductive rut, try stimulating your brain with this one-of-a-kind game. The point of The Wiki game is to go from one Wikipedia page to a completely different, unrelated one, just using the hyperlinks in the articles, while competing with other people. For example, it might give you the Wiki page on “Waltz” and you must get to “Desert”. Connections on a whole new level. Fun like never before.
